NDX Weekly Technical Outlook
US Tech 100: Bears Still Hold Control, But a Key Inflection Point Is Near
Hi Compounders,
The Nasdaq 100 continues to trade under significant technical pressure, and this week's chart paints a market that is attempting to stabilize rather than reverse. While buyers have managed to defend an important support zone around 28,250–28,350, every rally continues to be sold into, suggesting institutional money is still distributing strength instead of accumulating aggressively.
The bigger picture remains cautious. Until price reclaims the major moving averages and breaks its descending trendline, the path of least resistance continues to favor the downside.
Market Structure
Over the past several weeks the index has transitioned from a healthy consolidation into a well-defined series of lower highs and lower lows, the textbook definition of a bearish trend.
Several technical features stand out:
A persistent descending trendline has capped every meaningful rally.
Price has now broken below multiple short-term support levels.
Previous consolidation has evolved into a downward channel.
Momentum continues to weaken despite occasional oversold bounces.
The current move is no longer simply profit-taking—it is becoming a trend.
Chart Pattern Analysis
Descending Channel
The clearest pattern visible is a descending channel.
Each bounce is reaching a lower high while sellers step in sooner than before.
This tells us:
Buyers remain active.
Sellers remain stronger.
Until price closes convincingly above the upper trendline, rallies should be viewed as counter-trend moves.

US Tech 100 Bull vs Bear Case
Lower High Sequence
Recent swing highs have developed at progressively lower levels:
~30,400
~30,000
~29,700
~29,350
~28,900
This staircase lower is one of the strongest confirmations that trend direction has shifted.
Critical Support
Price is sitting almost directly on an important support region around:
28,250–28,350
This level has acted as:
Previous demand
Short-term swing support
Psychological round-number support
If buyers fail here, the next downside move could accelerate.
Moving Average Analysis
The moving averages tell perhaps the clearest story on the chart.
EMA 20
The 20 EMA has rolled over sharply and continues acting as dynamic resistance.
Every recent rally has failed beneath it.
This reflects weak short-term momentum.
EMA 50
The 50 EMA is also sloping downward.
Instead of providing support, it is now acting as overhead resistance.
This confirms intermediate-term weakness.
EMA 100
The 100 EMA has flattened before beginning to turn lower.
That transition often occurs during trend changes.
EMA 200
The 200 EMA remains comfortably above current price.
This is significant because institutions often use the 200-day/period average as the dividing line between long-term bull and bear phases.
Currently:
Price is below every major moving average.
All shorter averages sit beneath longer averages.
Momentum alignment favors sellers.
This is a classic bearish moving-average structure.
MACD Outlook
Although the MACD panel is not visible on this screenshot, the current price action strongly suggests the following characteristics:
MACD is likely below the zero line.
Momentum remains negative.
Histogram is probably showing contracting downside momentum after the recent selloff.
Any bullish crossover would first need confirmation through higher highs in price.
What I'm watching is whether the MACD begins making higher lows while price makes equal or lower lows. That would create a bullish divergence, often an early signal that selling pressure is fading.
At the moment, however, the broader momentum still favors the bears.
RSI Outlook
The RSI is also not displayed on the chart, but based on the recent decline and the current price structure:
RSI is likely trading in the 35–45 region.
That suggests weak momentum but not yet an extreme oversold condition.
A sustained move above RSI 50 would improve the technical outlook.
A drop below RSI 30 would indicate panic selling and increase the probability of a relief rally.
For now, RSI appears consistent with a market that is weak—not yet washed out.
Volume Analysis
Volume has increased on several of the larger red candles.
That tells us:
Sellers remain committed.
Institutions are still active during declines.
Buying volume has yet to show convincing accumulation.
A true reversal usually arrives with expanding volume on green candles. We have not seen that yet.
Key Levels to Watch
Resistance
28,650
28,900
29,120 (100 EMA)
29,240 (200 EMA region)
29,600–29,750
30,000+ (major trendline resistance)
Only a sustained break above the 29,200–29,300 zone would begin to shift the short-term outlook back toward neutral.
Support
28,350
28,250 (critical support)
28,000
27,750
27,400–27,500
A decisive close below 28,250 would likely trigger another wave of selling.
Bull Case
The bulls are not out of the game—but they need evidence.
A constructive scenario would involve:
Holding above 28,250.
MACD turning upward.
RSI recovering above 50.
Price reclaiming the 20 and 50 EMAs.
Breaking the descending trendline.
If those conditions develop, the index could challenge the 29,200–29,700 region.
Bear Case
Currently, this remains the higher-probability scenario.
If support fails:
Trend followers may add short exposure.
Momentum funds could increase selling.
Stops beneath support may accelerate downside.
The next leg lower could target the 27,700–27,500 area before stronger buying interest emerges.
What I'll Be Watching Next Week
There are five signals that matter most:
Can buyers defend the 28,250 support zone?
Does the index reclaim the 20 EMA?
Does MACD begin to flatten or cross higher?
Does RSI build a bullish divergence?
Does volume shift from distribution to accumulation?
The answers to these questions will determine whether this is merely a pause in a broader correction—or the beginning of a more durable recovery.
Final Thoughts
The technical picture remains tilted toward the bears, but the market is approaching a pivotal decision point. The confluence of long-term support and a prolonged decline means volatility is likely to increase in the sessions ahead. Rather than trying to predict every move, focus on confirmation: trendline breaks, improving momentum, and stronger participation from buyers. Those signals will matter far more than any single green day.
